Coimbatore : The Coimbatore Tourist Taxi, Van and Travel Owner's Association has hailed the Chief Minister's decision to provide tax relief for the maxi-cab vehicles. The association secretary, D. Ravi, in a release here has said that the Chief Minister had waived the quarterly tax for maxi-cab vehicles from Rs. 500 per seat to Rs. 275. The tax concession would go a long way in saving the transport industry, which was suffering from hike in insurance premium, spare parts and fuel cost. It would definitely give a fillip to the tourism industry, he said. The tax concession, which came as a New Year gift, had been a long felt need and demand of the industry, Mr. Ravi said. Concession in tax slab is effective from January 1, 2006.
