LUCKY ESCAPE: The pilot vehicle of the Chief Minister's convoy which was involved in an accident on Tuesday.
BANGALORE: Three persons were injured, and tension prevailed for over 15 minutes on Tuesday, when a goods vehicle collided with the pilot vehicle in Chief Minister N. Dharam Singh's convoy near Hirisave in Hassan district. The Chief Minister was on his way to Shravanabelagola in Hassan district to inspect the progress in the preparations for the Mahamastakabhishekha. The convoy, which included a couple of buses, in which Mr. Singh, Water Resources Minister and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president Mallikarjun Kharge, apart from the cars in which Deputy Chief Minister M.P. Prakash, were travelling, had just passed Hirisave on the highway to Shravanabelagola. An oncoming goods vehicle swerved suddenly and collided with the pilot vehicle, to avoid knocking down some people who had suddenly crossed the road. The driver of the pilot vehicle, a police inspector and another person were injured. The accident occurred at Juttanahalli village, about 10 km from Shravanabelagola. An ambulance, which was part of the convoy, was at hand and the medical personnel immediately administered first aid. The Chief Minister and his colleagues spoke to the injured persons and ensured that they were immediately moved to hospital for treatment. The accident left everyone travelling in the convoy, which also had mediapersons from Bangalore accompanying the Chief Minister to cover the review meeting, a little disconcerted for a while. But the fact that the injuries were not serious and that they were immediately attended to, did not cast a shadow for too long.
