Order upheld in Mehta case

Legal Correspondent

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday upheld a special court order directing sale of commercial property belonging to late Harshad Mehta for paying off his tax and other liabilities.

A Bench of Justice S. B. Sinha and Justice P. P. Naolekar, however, asked the special court in Mumbai to reconsider its order regarding sale of residential property owned by Mehta's family taking into consideration all aspects. The Bench passed this order on petitions filed by Mehta's wife and brother against the special court order contending that the income tax claims were exaggerated. They submitted that since the property were bought before the security scam, they could not be sold under the court order.
