PONDICHERRY: A portion of the leather goods manufacturing factory in Uthravahinipet near Villianur was damaged in a fire that broke out at around 3 a.m. on Tuesday. According to the Fire Service Department the fire destroyed a large number of leather jackets meant for export, two imported manufacturing machineries. The fire also caused damage to the building structure. The blaze apparently caused by an electric shock was brought into control after 6 fire tenders battled for more than three hours, police said.
