Gear up for polls, Narayanasamy tells party cadres

Special Correspondent

Urges partymen to work towards a Congress victory in the polls

PONDICHERRY: The Congress MP V. Narayanasamy has said that the enforcement of the order of the Delimitation Commission refixing the Assembly constituencies for the forthcoming polls, was a matter to be decided by the Election Commission (EC) and President of India.

Addressing newsmen here on Tuesday Mr. Narayanasamy, a former president of the Pondicherry Pradesh Congress Committee, appealed to the party cadres to work hard to ensure a Congress victory in the elections. He said that as far as the Congress was concerned it had already placed before the Delimitation Commission the views and sentiments of members and party legislators on redrawing the territorial limits of the constituencies.

Under the Delimitation Commission order, Pondicherry would have 23 constituencies against the present 21 segments. Karaikal will have five constituencies instead of the present six and Mahe would have only one against the two constituencies it now has. Yanam will continue to have one constituency.

Narayanasamy said that the Congress was prepared to face the polls irrespective of whether the delimitation of constituencies went ahead or not. He said that while all political parties had freedom to air their views the enforcement of the delimitation, they should however realise that it was only for the EC or the President to take a final decision.
