Minority rights

The article, `Minority rights and responsibilities' (Dec. 31), raises some debatable points. Preferential admissions in minority institutions have led to large-scale profiteering by a few. It is a pity that our rulers are not willing to review the reservation system even after half a century of its implementation.

The author has suggested the creamy layer formula but that does not seem practical since there is no clear-cut mechanism to pick out the affluent among the minorities.
