CHENNAI: Security for educational institutions and shopping malls in Chennai continues to be tight following the December 28 attack on scientists at the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore. Armed personnel have been posted in these places. Senior police officials said TIDEL Park, the Indian Institute of Technology, Central Leather Research Institute and Anna University in south Chennai, Spencer Plaza and Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus (CMBT) at Koyambedu in central Chennai are some of the spots where vigil is being maintained. In educational institutions in south Chennai, five armed men were posted besides commandos from the Swift Action Group. The commandos work in shifts, said the officials. At Spencer Plaza and CMBT, three armed men were maintaining vigil at the entry and exit points and the mall, said a senior officer. The Central and Egmore railway stations too have come under scanner. Government Railway Police officials and Railway Protection Force men maintain vigil. A total of 75 personnel, including armed men, were posted at Central Station and 50 personnel at the Egmore station. Railway officials were advised to check parcels before accepting them for booking.
