Police admonished for failure to control mob

Staff Reporter

Lathicharge used to disperse unruly crowd

ANANTAPUR: The Two Town police were on Tuesday admonished by the Additional Judicial First Class Magistrate, A. Jayaraj, as a mob disrupted the court proceedings by shouting slogans loudly in support of three persons arrested by the One Town police on Monday.

Inspector of Two Town, John Manohar, was summoned by the judge and was rebuked for the police failure to control the crowd gathered on the court premises. The Two Town police station is located right opposite to the court complex and is hardly about 50 meters away from the AJFCM court hall.

As the One Town police brought three persons -- Ch. Sriramulu, Pushparaj and Nagabhushanam -- arrested on Monday while evacuating Government and private lands encroached upon by the poor near APSRTC bus station, a crowd comprising about 100 persons gathered on the court premises and raised slogans in support of them. The noise created by the slogan shouting disrupted the proceedings in the AJFCM court. Annoyed with the continuous slogan shouting by the crowd the judge summoned the Two Town Inspector and chided him for his failure to maintain calm on the court premises by controlling the crowd. Pricked by the court's rebuke the police vent their ire on the crowd with the help of lathis.

The canning dispersed the crowd as they ran helter skelter to escape the taste of lathis. Later, the judge remanded the arrested persons for 14 days.
