CHENNAI: The new and enhanced higher secondary syllabus may be a little tough for students, but was essential in the face of technological advancements, Director of School Education S. Paramasivan has said.

The challenging syllabus, on a par with international levels, would boost the knowledge and application skills of students. This would stand them in good stead in future, he said, participating in a recent function organised by the Chennai district unit of the Tamil Nadu Higher Secondary School Headmasters Association.

At the function, headmasters who had secured National and State awards were honoured.

Mr. Paramasivan assured teachers that files containing their grievances, pending at the revenue or educational district levels, would be disposed off early. He paid tributes to the educational system that had helped students with rural backgrounds attain success even at the international level.

K. Sivanandan, president of the headmasters association, who chaired the meeting, lauded the positive initiatives taken by the School Education directorate, especially in syllabus upgradation and evaluation methods.

The Chief Educational Officer, Chennai, D. Rajendran, urged the headmasters to work in unison to improve educational standards in the district and make it a model for the rest of the State.
