Lions donate sewing machines

CHENNAI:
The Lions Club of K.K. Nagar of District 324 A5 celebrated Ladies Nite on Sunday by donating sewing machines, steel cupboards, grocery, bicycles, saris, hearing aids, ceiling fans, baby chairs and mixer.
K. Ramadurai, district governor of 324-A5 donated a computer to Ishrath Voluntary Service Centre in Royapettah.
Sewing machines, mixer and supporting assistance were given to widows and abandoned women to help them eke out a livelihood. Floor collection was made for building a school in aid of Ganapathy National Middle School in Saidapet.
The projects were donated to flood victims and orphanages, homes for the destitute and poor being run in the city and the suburbs. Chief Guest Mina Swaminathan and Mr. Ramadurai gave away the equipment. Mrs. Swaminathan spoke onthe need for sharing of family responsibilities among husband and wife. Women's freedom of expression and uplift of women's status in society were other issues she touched upon. Among those who spoke were Mr. Ramadurai and project chairman, G. Ahmed Sharif.
