The Rough Guide to Raj Bhavan

CHENNAI:
Guess how much the British paid for the Raj Bhavan? The answer: 10,000 pagodas (Rs. 35,000) - and that was in 1821.
Which Governor was responsible for the purchase of what was then called Guindy Lodge? Thomas Munro (1820-27).
These and many more interesting historical tidbits form part of the website www.tnrajbhavan.gov.in (or www.rajbhavan.tn.nic.in) , launched by Governor Surjit Singh Barnala at a low-key function at Raj Bhavan on Tuesday.
Another Raj Bhavan in the State, located at Udhagamandalam, is also a heritage structure. It boasts of antique furniture, which can be viewed on the website.
There are web pages containing speeches given by the present Governor and events attended by him. Mr Barnala's paintings are also available.
Those who want to know more about the previous Governors of the State can get the details from the website.
At the launch function, the Governor honoured S. Muthiah, historian, the consultant for the website project, and A. Mohan, deputy director-general of the National Informatics Centre, which designed the site.
Mr. Muthiah said that more data needed to be incorporated on the website.
