Revenue Adalat begins

It will continue at village offices till January 20

KOCHI: Fisheries and Sports Minister Dominic Presentation has said that the village offices should show a responsive attitude towards the underprivileged people.

Speaking after the district-level inauguration of the Revenue Adalat at Elamkulam Village Office on Tuesday, the Minister said that the officials should be helpful to the common people who possess only two or three cents of land. He called for ending the long wait by the people for getting the required documents from the Revenue offices.

K.V. Thomas, MLA, presided over the function. Sebastian Paul, MP; Ludy Luis, MLA; District Collector A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish; Additional District Magistrate Johnson K. George and Revenue Divisional Officer Mini Antony took part.

The adalat was inaugurated in all 117 village offices in the district by people's representatives on Tuesday. The adalats will continue till January 20. Officials in the rank of Deputy Collector will conduct the adalats.

Although the decision is to consider the complaints received earlier till December 23, 2005, it has also been decided to directly accept complaints in the adalats. According to this decision, cases were accepted even on Tuesday. The total number of complaints received in the district so far is 4,814. Most of the complaints related to `Pokkuvaravu' documents and title deeds.

Complaints solved

In the adalat held on Tuesday in ten village offices in five taluks, 494 out of 590 complaints were resolved. All the cases that came up in Aluva (West), Vadakkekkara and Moothakunnam were resolved at the adalat.

Complaints will be received throughout the period when the adalats will be held till January 20. Land Revenue Commissioner Alphonse Kannanthanam will tour the district during the days on which the adalats are to be conducted.
