NEW DELHI: A Reliance Infocomm employee was arrested by the Special Cell of the Delhi police on Monday in connection with the alleged tapping of telephones of some Samajwadi Party leaders on the basis of forged authorisation documents. The owner of a South Delhi-based detective agency was arrested on December 31 for allegedly getting the phones tapped. It is learnt that during interrogation, the owner of the Metro Intelligence Agency that had its office in South Extension, Bhupender Singh, allegedly disclosed that he managed to forge the documents with the help of a Reliance Infocomm staff, Kuldeep. According to sources, Kuldeep allegedly provided Bhupender copies of two letters issued by Joint Commissioner of Delhi Police (Crime Branch) Ranjit Narain and State Principal Secretary (Home) R. Narayanswami, and these had been sent to the mobile service provider firm for interception of certain numbers in old cases. Bhupender then allegedly forged the letters by putting in the numbers he wanted to intercept. Kuldeep, who worked as a clerk in Reliance Infocomm, allegedly managed to get the letters forwarded. As the letters were shown to have arrived through "official" channels, a parallel reception of calls to the numbers under surveillance on a mobile number allegedly being used by Bhupender was allowed and the tapping allegedly continued for about two months. At Bhupender's instance, the police summoned Kuldeep for questioning on Monday. After he purportedly confessed, the Special Cell arrested and produced him before a Delhi court on Tuesday and he was remanded to three-day police custody.
