Bangalore: The Telecom and Maruthinagar 2nd Division Residents Association has objected to the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) acquiring land for the formation of the Peripheral Ring Road.

About 150 residences are under threat at Venkatala coming under the Yelahanka City Municipal Council.

The secretary of the association, P. Rajan, told presspersons here on Tuesday that the BDA was acquiring lands contrary to the guidelines, which were proposed in the Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP) for the formation of the Peripheral Ring Road.

Mr. Rajan lamented that the BDA is not only acquiring land for the Peripheral Ring Road but also for the formation of Truck Terminal and Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) shed.

Besides the residents who are affected, the Yelahanka City Municipal Council has objected to the acquisition as it has not been consulted in this connection.

The BMTC shed and the Truck Terminal were to come up on the left side of the National Highway 7 (towards Devanahalli) but the BDA has planned to acquire 84.28 acres on the right side of the highway causing inconvenience to the 2,000 residential sites planned there (500 houses have already come up).

`In residential area'

"Only 45 acres of land is required for the Peripheral Ring Road and the rest of the land to be acquired falls under residential belt," he said.
