PANAJI: As the "Saleli landlord murder" controversy continued to hot up, Goa Chief Minister Pratapsing Rane on Wednesday alleged that BJP is behind the episode and asked Leader of the Opposition Manohar Parrikar to desist from politicising the issue and instigating the people for political mileage. At a press conference here on Wednesday, Mr. Rane rejected charges made by the Opposition, and said that as Home Minister and MLA of the constituency in which the unfortunate incident occurred, he wanted an investigation to be conducted without interference and the guilty to be punished. "It was a planned attack, and a man has been lynched and several police injured in stone throwing. I don't think we should politicise crime," Mr. Rane said and warned that if the law is not allowed to take its course, violence will spread across the State. Referring to criticism against him by former Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, Mr. Rane described the ongoing agitation as "anti-people". He said that during his tenure as Revenue Minister in 1970s, he initiated land reforms and he does not have to learn about farmers' interests from Mr. Parrikar.
