hold dharna

KOCHI : The All Kerala Distributors' Association will hold a dharna in front of the General Post Office on Hospital Road in protest against the Government's plans to open up the Indian market to foreign monopoly firms. SUCI demand

KOCHI: The Socialist Unity Centre of India (SUCI) has demanded that immediate steps be taken to curb pollution of the Periyar. The SUCI said several companies operating in the area were dumping chemical waste into the river. SUCI local committee secretary Francis Kalathunkal demanded that the Government initiate steps to ensure that all pollution-control devices on the coast of the Periyar functioned properly. — Staff Reporter

Endoscopy workshop

KOCHI: A pre-congress workshop on Endoscopy will be conducted on Thursday, as part of the 49th All India Congress of Obstetrics and Gynaecology to be held at Hotel Le Meridien. The congress is organised by the Thrissur District Obstetrics & Gynaecological Society under the aegis of the Federation of Obstetrics & Gynaecological Society of India. The workshop, to be led by Hafeez Rahman, National Faculty for the conference, will be held at Sunrise Hospital, Seaport-Airport Road, Kakkanad from 8 a.m. Leading experts will take part in the workshop. — Staff Reporter

Inauguration

KOCHI: Sangha Maithry, a fruit and vegetable collection and distribution centre constructed by the District Agricultural Products Collection and Distribution Centre near Civil Station, Kakkanad, will be inaugurated by K. Babu MLA on January 9. District panchayat president P.S. Shyla will preside over the function and District Collector A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish will inaugurate the first sales. . — Staff Reporter
