Kalam arrives in city

HYDERABAD:
President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam arrived late on Wednesday evening on a 20-hour visit, primarily to participate in the 93rd Indian Science Congress. He will spend at least six hours at the Children's Science Congress.
He was accorded a warm welcome at the airport by Governor Sushilkumar Shinde, Speaker K.R. Suresh Reddy, Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and Chief Justice G.S. Sanghvi several State Cabinet Ministers and others.
On landing, Dr. Kalam is understood to have enquired with Dr. Reddy on the status of irrigation projects in Andhra Pradesh.
According to the official schedule, he will attend the inaugural of a focal theme symposia "Integrated rural development: Science and technology" on Thursday. He will give away the Dr. Norman E. Borlaug Award and the Indian Science Congress Association Young Scientist Awards.
