Arrangements reviewed

Staff Reporter

Coimbatore: The District Collector, S. Kosalaraman, held a meeting of revenue and police officials for reviewing the arrangements for distribution of free sarees and dhoties to people below the poverty line in the district for the coming Pongal festival.

The meeting gained significance in the wake of two consecutive incidents of stampedes at flood relief distribution centres at Vysarpadi and near Ashok Nagar in Chennai.

Officials from the departments of civil supplies and revenue and the police attended the meeting.

About 8,39,294 sarees and dhoties will be distributed.
