CHENNAI: Le Royal Meridien hotels in Chennai and other places in the country have now become part of Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide. This follows the completion of buyout by Starwood Hotels of the Le Meridien brand and the related franchise business for the portfolio of 130 hotels and resorts across the globe. Starwood is one of the leading hotel and leisure companies in the world with over 800 properties in more than 80 countries. Le Royal Meridien in Chennai was floated by a company promoted by sugar baron Palani G. Periasamy and was run by Royal Meridien under a management contract. Post-acquisition, Starwood is reported to have convened a meeting of the owners of Le Royal Meriden properties across the globe next week in Santiago in the U.S. Starwood is expected to unveil, at the upcoming meeting, its roadmap vis-à-vis Le Royal Meridien properties across the globe.
