Boys home alone, pups get dog-sitter

Manteca: A U.S. couple, newly married, who found a dog-sitter for their puppies but left a 9-year-old son at home to care for his 5-year-old autistic brother while they spent the New Year in Las Vegas on a five-day trip, have been arrested. The children's mother had died of cancer in 2003 and Jacob Calero, 39, married Michelle De La Vega, 32. The older boy said his dad and stepmother got each other pups for Christmas. "I thought they loved them more than us," he said. — AP
