THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala State Private Bus Operators Federation has urged the Government to implement nationalisation of bus routes in the State on the lines implemented in Tamil Nadu and by retaining the existing bus permits granted to private bus operators. Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, federation president A. K. Abdulla and general secretary Lawrence Babu said granting of bus permits could be stopped by bringing all bus routes under the nationalised sector and by retaining all permits provided in the complete exclusion, partial exclusion and supplementary schemes. The federation leaders said the Government could operate KSRTC services in routes, which need bus permits after nationalisation had come into effect. Even in Tamil Nadu, where the nationalisation was implemented in 1992, no new bus permits were sanctioned to the private buses. The public sector was granted permits in routes where buses were needed. Mr. Abdulla said nationalisation of bus routes was needed for both the private and public sectors.
