Belgaum: A gang of dacoits struck at the house of a schoolteacher in Nippani town and decamped with Rs. 6,000 in cash, gold earrings weighing about five grams and a mobile phone in the early hours of Wednesday. According to Nippani police, the gang members in masks used a rod to open the door when the family did not respond to their knock. Equipped with clubs and other weapons, they assaulted the teacher, Vijay Annasab Vagwade, and his wife, causing head injuries and took away the cash, the earrings and the mobile phone. Also, on noticing that a resident, Shankar Tukaram, was watching them through a window, the dacoits hit him with stones injuring him in the eye. The three victims were admitted to the Government Hospital, the police said.
