HUBLI: Dacoits struck at three houses in Hubli in the early hours of Thursday and took away jewellery worth Rs. 1.60 lakhs after assaulting the family members. One person was injured in the attack.

The police said the dacoits struck at the houses of Aminsab Nadaf, Basavaraj Kavalur and Basavaraj Hiremath at 2 a.m. The three houses are situated on the outskirts of Murarji Nagar in CITB Colony in the Old Hubli Station limits.

The police said the dacoits first entered the house of Aminsab Nadaf by breaking open the door. When Aminsab offered resistance, they hit him with an iron rod injuring him severely. After tying up his daughter, Nafirbi, they took away 200 grams of gold jewellery from the house.

Then the dacoits struck at the house of Basavaraj Yallappa Kavalur, an ex-serviceman, now working as clerk in the Land Army. After threatening Basavaraj, his wife, son and daughter and locking them up in a room, they took away 120 grams of gold jewellery, a mobile phone and a telephone, the police said.

Later, the dacoits forcefully opened the door of the house of Basavaraj Hiremath. They beat up Basavaraj and his wife, Leelavati, with a club, and snatched the mangalasutra from Leelavati before locking them up in a room. They even locked the front door of the house before leaving, the police said.

On getting information, Police Commissioner Narayan Nadamani and other police officials rushed to the spot.

The injured Aminsab was immediately shifted to the Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences Hospital here.

The police said the dacoits in the 25 to 30 age group wore trousers and shirts. They had covered their face with handkerchiefs. After locking up the family members, the dacoits had ransacked the three houses, they said.

A dog squad was pressed into service. Forensic experts visited the spot. A special squad has been set up for investigation.
