Letters to the Editor
The Supreme Court has done well by declining to stay the Andhra Pradesh High Court verdict quashing an Ordinance providing five per cent reservation for Muslims in government jobs. It has referred the issue to a Constitution Bench. Jawaharlal Nehru once said: "India is in peril, defend it with all your might." That time is now!
What is wrong in providing five per cent reservation for Muslims in government employment and education?
K. Pradeep,
The inadequate representation of Muslims in various fields on account of their backwardness is well known. In this the backdrop, the Supreme Court verdict is a severe blow to the minority community.
A. Mohamed Aslam,
Why are some members of our political class so self-centred? The answer unfortunately lies with "we, the powerless people." It is time people realised that reservation is a bane in the long run. The only reservation that should be allowed is the one based on the economic status of the citizen.
