Letters to the Editor
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's call for a second green revolution is good news for our weary farmers, particularly marginal and small farmers. If the call is taken seriously, the woes of the vital farm community can end. Also, efforts to help them come out of their debt traps and crop insurance coverage out of government funds will give our farmers hope.
Ranjith Sukumaran,
The first green revolution made us self-sufficient in food. Our focus then shifted to the industrial boom and in recent times to the IT revolution. To put our economy on a sound footing and achieve greater growth, it is essential to give an impetus to agriculture and agro-based industries. Ways and means should be explored to channel the benefits from the IT industry to the promotion of agriculture.
A laudable proposal. Research and development in agriculture science is a boon only when it reaches the farms.
Shirpa Handa,
