His unique talents

Special Correspondent

Bangalore: For 11-year-old Basavaraj Shankar Uamarani it was the proverbial 15 minutes of fame. Visually impaired from birth, this boy from Athani in Belgaum district has a keen sense of hearing and an impressive memory for numbers.

He delighted presspersons by asking them to tell him any date and any month between the years 1900 and 2100 and he quickly calculated which day of the week it falls on. His tactile sense is equally well developed. By just feeling a currency note he can tell you what denomination it is. To top it all, Basavaraj can reel out details and statistics about each player in the Indian cricket team.
