A journey through the written word, it will be time to celebrate the magic of "black and white" in the Capital this week. Coming as it does with the promise of spinning stories and weaving relationships through dialogue, discussions and, of course, tales from different parts of the world, the Katha Asia International Utsav finally takes off at India Habitat Centre on Friday. Centred round cities, the festival will this year focus on the theme of "Writing the City, Transforming the City''. An attempt to understand and celebrate the cities of Asia, the festival will work towards showcasing the diversity, vibrancy, problems and socio-cultural realities of urban Asian cities. Spread over six days, the festival will highlight the best practices in urban design and community activism and work towards building networks among communities and cities of Asia for a more caring and equitable society. Likely to witness the presence of 30 well known Asian and international writers, activists, academicians, scholars and policy makers as well as 600 students from seven Indian metros and 500 college students, the event will provide Delhiites a rare opportunity to interact with those in the publishing industry. From story-writing contests for school and college students to a workshop for translators and illustrators and a film festival to book fair, there will be much to look forward to at the Utsav. Also planned are a school teachers' conference, open discussions and interactions with eminent Asian authors. For those interested in world cinema, there will be as many as eight films to choose from on Saturday including Abbas Kiarostami's ``Ten'', Yang Zhang's ``Quitting'', Rahul Roy's ``Sunder Nagri'' and Hasan Zaidi's ``The long Night''. -- Lakshmi B.
