National weightlifting at Vizag

VISAKHAPATNAM: This year's senior National weightlifting championships will be held at Visakhapatnam, the president of the AP State Weightlifting Association, K. Suryanarayana, said here on Thursday.

Visakhapatnam was decided as venue after the championships were allotted to Andhra Pradesh during the 2005 National championships held at Yamuna Nagar last week. The 2006 Nationals would be held in November or December.

A.P. was also allotted the junior Asian championships to be held in September or October, 2007. The meet might be held here or in Hyderabad. The APSWLA, meanwhile, congratulated its women's team which won the team title and Pujari Sailaja, who was declared best lifter at the Yamuna Nagar Nationals.

Sailaja bags two gold

K. Sailaja of Visakhapatnam hostel won the 48 kg gold and the Eluru hostel won two golds through K. Kumar and N. Sreekanth on the first day of the all-India SAI inter-hostel weightlifting championships at Visakhapatnam on Thursday.

The president of AP Volleyball Association, S. Kodandaramiah, inaugurated the championships.

The results: Boys: Seniors 56 kg category: 1. C. Mohan (Pondy, snatch 97 kg, clean and jerk 115 and total 212 kg); 2. A. Mahesh (Pondy); 3. Sh. Romenjit (Imphal). Juniors 56 kg: 1. K. Kumar (Eluru, 83, 106 and 189 kg); 2. T. Bobo Singh (Imp); 3. K. Vinoth (Pondi). Sub-juniors 56 kg: 1. N. Sreekanth (Elu, 75, 106 and 181 kg); 2. L. Abin Singh (Imp), 3. M. Anil Kumar (Elu). 50 kg: 1. Uttam Kumar (Kasipur, 65, 80 and 145 kg); 2. H. Prem Kumar Singh (Imp); 3. Likha Jamin (Guwahati).

Junior girls 48 kg: 1. K. Sailaja (Visakha 60, 75 and 135 kg); 2. L. Herosanda Devi (Imp). Sub-juniors 48 kg: 1. Dipti Saikia (Guw, 47, 55 and 102 kg); 2. Suravi Gogai (Guw). 44 kg: 1. Kh. Sanjitha Devi (Imp, 40, 53 and 93 kg); 2. K. Deepika (Visakha).
