High Court seeks replies

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court has sought replies from the Registrar of Cooperative Societies (RCS), Delhi, and Delhi Development Authority (DDA) on a petition by a cooperative group housing society here accusing its former secretary of selling society's land to certain individuals by forging signatures of the members of its managing committee in connivance with government officials.

The prime land in Rishabh Vihar, three plots of 200 square yards each, was sold at a nominal price of Rs. 120 per square yard, the petitioner, Shree Rishabh Vihar Cooperative Housing Society, said.

A Division Bench comprising Justice Vijender Jain and Justice Rekha Sharma asked DDA and RCS to file replies to the petition by February 6.

Japanese grant for

U.P. project

NEW DELHI: The Government of Japan has agreed to give the Indian Government a grant assistance of 603 million yen (Rs. 23 crores) for development of a groundwater project in Uttar Pradesh.

Notes concerning the project were exchanged between the Ambassador of Japan, Yasukuni Enoki, and Joint Secretary, Ministry of Finance, M.F. Farooqui, here on Thursday.

Water supply to be hit

NEW DELHI: To facilitate flushing of a booster pumping station at Ramlila grounds, water supply will be available at low pressure in the evening on Friday and Saturday at Pahari Imli, Mata Sundari Road, Minto Road and Pahari Bhojila.

Residents have been advised by the Delhi Jal Board to store water in advance. Water tankers will be available at telephone No. 23370299 and 23370388 (I.P. Pumping Station Water Emergency).

Transco gets new finance chief

NEW DELHI: Dr. Pawan Singh has taken over as Director (Finance) of Delhi Transco Limited. In addition, he will also hold the post of Director (Finance) of Delhi Power Company Limited.

An officer of the Indian Railway Accounts Service, Mr. Singh has done his Ph.D. in Infrastructure Finance. Prior to this assignment, he was with the Power Grid Corporation of India Limited.

Power thefts detected

NEW DELHI: As part of its ongoing drive against power thefts, BSES has intensified its operations in areas which were so far out of bounds for enforcement personnel.

Massive power thefts amounting to over Rs.1.2crores a year were detected at Gokulpuri in East Delhi. An FIR for direct theft has been registered against half-a-dozen offenders.

According to a BSES spokesperson, "BSES is determined to eliminate the menace of power theft in Delhi, because it doesn't want honest consumers to pay for the sins of others. Electricity is a scarce resource, consumers should help BSES catch the wrongdoers."
