THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Government has decided to give a funeral with police honours to celebrated Kathakali singer Kalamandalam Hyderali. It was Cultural Affairs Minister A. P. Anil Kumar who prevailed upon Chief Minister Oommen Chandy to give police honours to the great artiste taking into consideration his contributions for the popularisation of Kathakali and Kathakali music. The Chief Minister, in his condolence message, said Hyderali ranked among the talented persons who gave a new depth and meaning to Kathakali music. His talent had made significant contributions for the elevation of Kerala's exclusive art form. He was the phenomenon of Kathakali music of an era. Through his demise, Kathakali music was losing its charm and beauty. The vacuum created by his exit was so big. The Cultural Affairs Minister said that it was because Hyderali realised his role as an artiste that he came from the world of Islam to an art form which was steeped in lores of Hindu religion. His songs had inspired the actors to scale new heights. He was much respected as a teacher also of Kathakali music. He had played a key role in bringing international fame to the art form. His demise was an irreparable loss to cultural Kerala. Minister for Forest and Environment A. Sujanapal said that Hyderali proved that a talented person could absorb Kathakali music and through it conquer the mind of cultural Kerala. He was one of the all-time bests of Kathakali music. Public Work s Minister M. K. Munir described Hyderali as a talent who had played a key role in bringing Kathakali music to the masses.
