Sharon's condition `critical'
Atul Aneja
Ariel Sharon
DUBAI:
Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon suffered a massive brain haemorrhage on Thursday and was battling for his life in hospital, hospital sources said.
Doctors attending on Mr. Sharon said that he had undergone seven hours of intensive surgery. A scan after six hours of surgery showed that the bleeding in Mr. Sharon's brain had not stopped, leading to the extension of the operation by another hour.
Shlomo Mor-Yosef, director of the Hadassah hospital in Jerusalem where Mr. Sharon was being treated described the Prime Minister's condition as, "still critical but stable."
He said Mr. Sharon would remain in "deep sedation and on a respirator at least for the next 24 hours."
