Chandigarh: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Shamsher Singh Dullo has sent a three-member committee under Member of Parliament (MP) from Jalandhar, Rana Gurjit Singh to Uttaranchal for making an on-the-spot assessment of the situation in Kashipur where the crops and property of the farmers mostly Sikhs is reported to have been destroyed on the orders of the government. The committee after touring Kashipur will make recommendations for immediate relief to the victims of the ``high-handedness" of the administration. Tej Parkash Singh and Gurinder Singh Atwal, both the MLAs are members of the committee. A press release issued from the Punjab Congress Headquarters here on Thursday stated that Mr Dullo had talked to Uttaranchal Chief Minister Narain Dutt Tiwari and Moti Lal Vora, in-charge of Uttaranchal Affairs in All India Congress Committee (AICC) in this regard.
Meanwhile, Shiromani Akali Dal general secretary Sukhbir Singh Badal has asked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi to break their silence over what he described as "unspeakable atrocities
