NEW DELHI: The son of a head constable posted with the Bihar police was arrested near Shangri-La Hotel here on Tuesday by the Special Staff of the New Delhi police in connection with a hoax call made on December 24 claiming that a bomb had been planted at Hotel Intercontinental on Barakhamba Road. The accused is also allegedly engaged in a prostitution racket. Acting on a tip-off that the suspect in the bomb hoax call would turn up near Shangri-La Hotel, a team under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner of Police Harish laid a trap and arrested him. During interrogation, he identified himself as Anil Kumar Singh, a resident of Geeta Colony in East Delhi. Anil allegedly confessed to having made the hoax call. From his person, the police recovered a forged Central Bureau of Investigation identity card. Anil allegedly said that he was also into flesh trade and worked as a middleman for a big-time pimp, Sunny. It came to light that Anil, posing as a CBI officer, would even rob sex workers threatening them with arrest. He purportedly disclosed that he would also steal the belongings of his "clients". Investigations revealed that at least nine cases had been registered against Anil at different police stations. In a recent case registered by the Preet Vihar police, Anil was arrested for allegedly stealing the chequebook of a Bangalore-based person, and withdrawing Rs. 2 lakhs from a multinational bank's branch near Patna Medical College Hospital.
