NEW DELHI: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch of the Delhi police has questioned the former Indian cricketer, Ajay Jadeja, in connection with the purported sale of a plot of land in Noida, near here, to him by a former Samsung India official, who was recently arrested for allegedly siphoning off Rs. 19 crores from the company's accounts. The former Samsung vice-president, Vivek Prakash, bought the Noida property in 2002 from R. Srinivasan by making System Research Private Limited, an outsourcing agent for Samsung, pay Rs. 21. 11 lakh to him for "services rendered to the company." After the fraud was detected, the Registrar in Noida was informed on July last that the plot had become a case property and its sale should not be allowed in any case. However, after Vivek and his accomplice were arrested, the EOW learnt that the Noida property was in Mr. Jadeja's possession and his name-board was also fixed there. Subsequently, the police summoned him for questioning. At that time, he was not in the city. He reported to the EOW office in South Delhi on Monday.
No documents
At the meeting, Mr. Jadeja claimed that he bought the property from Vivek. However, he did not have any documents to prove that such a deal had been struck. The police asked him to produce the sale deed, possession papers and proof to establish that a monetary transaction had taken place as well as evidence showing mode of payment. It is learnt that Mr. Jadeja sought time of three-four days to arrange the papers, which was granted by the EOW. While the police await a reply from Mr. Jadeja, they are also trying to find out whether Vivek cheated him by selling the property to him using forged documents.
