CHENNAI: About 100 women hailing from New Balaji Nagar, Selaiyur took to streets on Thursday, alleging irregularities in flood relief distribution. The women holding placards came to Velachery Main Road to stage a road roko, defying police presence. K.Shantha, a resident said that about 500 names had been left out in Nellur Amman Koil Street area and Lakshmi Street of New Balaji Nagar. Sarangan, another protester said flaws occurred in preparing the list. He sought a thorough investigation in this regard. When the Revenue Inspector, Ms. Kalyani arrived at the spot, she was gheraoed by the protesters who sought immediate redress. After much debate, she asked them to get a list of names prepared and meet her at the Tahsildar office. Later the crowd disbursed. When contacted the Tambaram Municipal vice-chairman and the ward council member, A. Janakiraman, said they would meet the Tahsildar and if required the district collector to appraise them of the situation. He wanted the district administration authorities to call for the taluk-level meeting to enable them to air their views.
