BACK IN ACTION: Gowthami and Arvind Swamy in `Saasanam'.
The lead man in `Roja', `Thalapathy' and `Bombay,' Arvind Swamy was a Kollywood heartthrob before he bid adieu to the silver screen to pursue business. Now he returns to the limelight, thanks to delayed release of the National Film Development Corporation's (NFDC) film `Saasanam'. The movie also signals the return of the critically acclaimed director Mahendran the man behind movies of the late 70s such as `Mullum Malaraum' and `Udhiri Pookkal'. `Saasanam' is an emotional drama depicting relationships and values, and of the tolerance and loyalty that women display. It also depicts how the characters become incarcerations of circumstances. All this in the background of a traditional Karaikudi home. Director Mahendran says: "I feel that it will not only win awards but also turn into a commercial success for NFDC." Besides Arvind Swamy, the movie stars Gowthami, Ranjitha and `Thalaivasal' Vijai. Balabharathy scores the music. Lenin and V.T.Vijayan have done the editing. Ramakrishnan, the regional manager of NFDC, adds: "People have started to ask for distribution rights as we have censored the film before December 31 mainly to send it for national awards." He hopes Arvind Swamy continues his stint with acting. `Saasanam' is expected to release in February.
