CHENNAI: Usually awards or titles are given by music sabhas during the music season to senior artists, who are either in the middle or fag end of their career. But Kartik Fine Arts set a precedent by instituting a title for a young and upcoming artiste from the current year. At its Dance Festival - 2006, inaugurated here on Thursday, the Sabha conferred the title "Natya Chudar" on Anwesha Das. The title consisted of a citation, a medallion and Rs. 5,000.

M.Anantha Padmanathan, CEO, Best and Crompton Eng, who conferred the title on Ms.Anwesha Das, said his organisation was happy to be associated with Kartik Fine Arts in organising the dance festival. Kartik Fine Arts chairman L. Sabaretnam and vice-president M.V.Jayaram, spoke.
