Rajya Sabha member makes an appeal to Chief Minister

HYDERABAD
: Member of Parliament P. Madhu has appealed to Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy to release Rs. 34 crores immediately to augment drinking water supply in the six municipalities surrounding the city.
In a representation to the Chief Minister, the Rajya Sabha member said that water supply position in Serilingampally, Alwal, Malkajgiri, Kapra, Uppal and Rajendranagar was bad with once in three or four days supply.
For a population of 13.7 lakhs in an area of 300 sq. km, there were only 65,000 connections with water supply of 12 million gallons per day.
The 45 mgd of Krishna water being brought to the city at an expenditure of Rs.10 crores per month through a special pipeline laid at a cost of Rs.700 crores was being underutilised. But the six municipalities facing drinking water shortage could not draw Krishna water due to lack of additional storage capacity. If the Government released Rs.34 crores to improve storage facilities in the municipalities, they could hope for alternate day supply.
Mr. Madhu also said that another Rs.100 crore should be allocated for better distribution network in the municipalities.
