Staff Reporter

The woman died of cardiac arrest soon after being administered anaesthesia

BANGALORE: A housewife, who was allegedly stabbed by two robbers on Wednesday afternoon, died of cardiac arrest at a private hospital the same night.

The police said Savitha (31) had suffered injuries in her fingers after two youths stabbed her and robbed her of gold jewellery at around 1.30 p.m. at her house in Prakruthi Layout in Hennur police station limits.

Minor surgery suggested

Savitha was rushed to a private hospital in Hennur around 2.15 p.m. and an orthopaedic surgeon there suggested that she should undergo a minor surgery to ensure that she does not face any problem with the movement of fingers, the police said.

Around 7.30 p.m., Savitha's father, Subbarayappa, and her husband, Kantharaju, took her to a private hospital.

The doctors there took Savitha to the operation theatre around 10 p.m. to perform the surgery.

Taken to ICU

Around 11.15 p.m., the doctors told Mr. Kanthraju and Ms. Savitha's brother that she was in the intensive care unit (ICU) and they should urgently get her some medicines from outside. The two entered the ICU and found Savitha dead, the police said.

The doctors told them that Savitha died of cardiac arrest after she was administered anaesthesia.

An orthopaedic surgeon and the doctor who administered anaesthesia were present in the ICU, the police said.

On a complaint by Mr. Kantharaju, the Sanjaynagar police have registered a case of death due to negligence under the Section 304 (A) of the Indian Penal Code.
