Kochi
Navy chief to commission UAV squadron
Staff Reporter
KOCHI:
Admiral Arun Prakash, Chief of Naval Staff, will formally commission Indian Navy's first Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Squadron at the Southern Naval Command here on Friday.
The Navy had inducted UAVs in Kochi in early 2003 and had since gained expertise in operating the two variants of the UAV.
A statement issued by the Navy says that the ability to operate these flying machines remotely and without a pilot will go a long way in enhancing the surveillance capability of the Navy. The Squadron INAS (U) 342, based in Kochi, will be commanded by Cdr. R. Kawatra.
Admiral Prakash will also review a ceremonial parade as part of the commissioning ceremony.
