THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A 3-D movie theatre, the first of its kind in the State, has started functioning on the Science & Technology Museum campus here on Thursday. The theatre features a high quality 9ft x12ft screen, a sophisticated projector and a digital surround-sound audio system that isolate the audience from real surroundings and stimulate a semblance of virtual environment. The theatre hall has a seating capacity of 90. Inaugurating the facility, Education Minister E.T. Mohammed Basheer said it had been set up as part of providing advanced facilities to students for building awareness on science. He advised students to aim high to attain higher levels in life. P.J. Thomas, Principal Secretary and vice-chairman of the Kerala State Science and Technology, who presided, said he looked forward to today's students becoming eminent scientists in future. Short fiction films were screened in the 3-D theatre after its inauguration.
