MLA hurt in accident

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: MLA K. Mohan Kumar sustained injuries when the car he was travelling in collided with a jeep near Concordia School at Peroorkada at around 2 p.m. on Thursday. He was admitted to the intensive care unit (surgery) of Medical College Hospital. The MLA's driver, Suresh, as well as a 68-year-old woman, Rajamma, who was travelling in the jeep, were also injured and have been admitted to the hospital. The traffic police have registered a case. — Special Correspondent

`Government helping accused policemen'

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CPI State executive has alleged that the Government helped the police personnel accused in the torture and murder of a youth in the Fort police station here to obtain bail by purposely delaying the filing of the chargesheet against them. In a statement here, it further alleged that the Government had even refused to arrest the accused until it was forced to do so by popular demand. Meanwhile, the DYFI on Thursday organised a dharna in front of the Secretariat demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy for allegedly helping the accused to obtain bail. CPI(M) leader Kadakampally Surendran inaugurated the dharna. — Special Correspondent
