Jawani Diwani (Hindi) Cast: Emraan Hashmi, Hrishtaa Bhatt, Celina Jaitley Director: Manish Sharma Oh! We cinemagoers deserve better. Not another year that starts off with a film that is debased and debauch at worst, dreary and dreadful at its best. A film that is minimal in quality, so disparagingly double meaning, so shockingly short on aesthetics, that it deserves nothing but the shortest shrift, minimal appreciation, little time. Sorry, but the first Bollywood film of 2006 is also likely to have among the shortest of stays. And director Manish `Who' Sharma does nothing to step beyond the cover of anonymity with a film whose confusion in script is matched by the lead trio's mediocrity in acting. If Emraan Hashmi seems to sleepwalk through his role of a struggling singer, Hrishtaa Bhatt puts in a performance that one can call memorable simply because it is a notch above the pedestrian stuff dished out by Celina Jaitley. It is a love triangle where Hashmi's singer decides to marry Ms. Megabucks Bhatt while his heart is with Celina moll-like Jaitley. Of course, to fill in the reels, we get Mahesh Manjrekar as the bhai in love with the same girl.To get the crowds in, there is the mandatory smooch for Hashmi. Incidentally, there are enough double entendres in the film to merit consideration from the Censors. Ok, but does it merit your hard earned cash, invaluable time? No. Ignore Sharma's `Jawani Diwani' as the folly of youth. ZIYA US SALAM
