Letters to the Editor
This refers to the charges of adulteration of medicines in a pharmacy run by Swamy Ramdev. This involves two major issues. The first is the allegation that about 110 workers were illegally dismissed after they protested for not being paid the minimum wage and overtime. The second is that a Health Ministry report has confirmed the presence of animal matter in two drug samples from the pharmacy that were said to be herbal medicines. Whether Indian or foreign, medicines made out of incorrect pharmaceutical formulae should be done away with. A proper investigation into the whole matter is called for.
A redeeming feature of our polity is the refreshing presence of the Left that always strives to protect the interests of the common man. The case against Swamy Ramdev is the latest instance of its watchdog role.
Let us wait for a thorough investigation into the matter before jumping to hasty conclusions.
Salil Gewali,
If, as it is being claimed, the testing of the samples of medicines from the pharmacy has confirmed the presence of animal matter, why has Swamy Ramdev not been arrested so far?
Also, the ayurvedic pharmacy has been in existence for several years. None among the thousands who have used its products has complained. So, why are these allegations being made now?
T.S. Pattabhi Raman,
