ENTERPRISING TRIO: P.Vivek, Shashank Sharma and Varun Srivatsava
CHENNAI: A start-up by a group of engineering students from Chennai promising to offer technology and Internet-based solutions to students and corporates has found a venture capital of $ 100,000. The development is an indication of the venture capitalists' changing perceptions of supporting projects by students, especially those using technology. A gleeful Varun Srivastava, CEO of Mentor Information Systems (MIS), and a third year computer science student, says "for now the company will be incubated as part of Appin Group, a global tech solutions provider for students through e-learning and distance education programmes. But after February, MIS will become an independent company that will work in tandem with the Appin group... ," he says. P. Vivek and Shashank Sharma are co-promoters of MIS (www.mentorindia.org) . The company will deliver products and solutions through an e-library, e-learning portal and certification programmes. Seshadri of Avantage Solutions, a financial service provider, has backed the students' venture.
