Pondicherry: The indefinite mass leave stir resorted to by the ministerial staff of Pondicherry Government entered the third day on Friday. A large number of employees belonging to the clerical cadres, Assistants and Superintendents went on a fast. They claimed that their fast would continue indefinitely until their demands for restructuring the posts of Lower and Upper Division Clerks and Assistants and amalgamation of posts of Superintendent (Grades I and II) were fulfilled. The lone Bharatiya Janata party legislator, A.M.Krishnamoorthy, told newsmen that work in the government departments had come to a grinding halt. He appealed to the government to concede the employees` demands. Road development works could not be taken up in the Assembly constituencies under the MLA Area Development schemes as Bills relating to payment for the contractors or purchase of materials could not be prepared because of continued absence from work by the clerical staff. The staff urge restructuring the posts of Lower Division and Upper Division Clerks, as `Assistants Grade III and II `while` Assistants be redesignated as Assistants Grade I. The amalgamation of posts of Superintendents Grade I and II should have been finalised a few years ago.
