State ranking football from Sunday

Chennai: The State ranking football championship will be held at the JN Stadium here from January 8 to 17. The quarterfinalists of the Champions Club tournament, held at Tuticorin recently, will figure in the 10-day tournament. Indian Bank is the defending champion.

Addressing mediapersons, Ravikumar David, tournament director, said the teams would be divided into two groups of four each with the top two making the semifinals. Mr. David added that the TFA was still on the look out for a sponsor.

D.S. Sivaswamy, President, Kanchipuram FA, is the chairman of the tournament and Chitti Babu will be the match commissioner.

C.R. Visswanathan, president, TFA, will inaugurate the event. Customs, Chennai will meet Tuticorin Port in the opener.

The groupings:

Group A: ICF, Chennai Customs, Tuticorin Port, St. Joseph's College (Tiruchi).

Group B: Indian Bank, Sporting Union, Netaji SC, and Customs and Excise (Tiruchi).
