CHANDIGARH: The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation will make all efforts to control the rat menace in the Manimajra locality of the city by ensuring proper sanitation. An official spokesman of the Corporation admitted that the rat menace had increased considerably in Manimajra as the residents usually offered sweets and other food articles to the ants and rats especially near the religious places. He said the Health Department of the Chandigarh Administration was also engaged in tackling the rat menace. The city residents should not offer food to ants and rats and they should use rat traps and rat baits which are available in the office of Assistant Director Malaria, Chandigarh Administration. Meanwhile, the newly-elected Mayor, Surinder Singh, while interacting with the Councillors and the civic officials, emphasized the need for ``time- bound work.'' He urged the Councillors to submit a note regarding development needs of their respective wards in writing as early as possible so that these could be properly incorporated in the budget. They should also give feed-back about all sanctioned and completed works of their wards. He reiterated that sanitation was his main priority and he wanted to ensure that malba was disposed of in an organized manner.
