Double delight for Sanaa

Special Correspondent

CHANDIGARH: Rupesh Roy and Sanaa Bhambri won a double crown each in the Sunny Enclave ITF juniors grade `III' tennis tournament at the CLTA Complex here on Friday.

On a bright morning, Sanaa was in roaring form as she blanked Chinese qualifier, Yi Miao Zhou, in about 40 minutes. It was the first title of the year and second junior singles crown of the season for the Delhi left-hander.

In fact, Sanaa has played only three tournaments on her return to the junior circuit, and has done very well in all three, having made the final of the Asia-Oceania tournament in Bangkok in October.

New approach

She had opted out of the juniors after Wimbledon in 2004, but has revised her approach after staying away for 16 months, in her attempt to make a mark in the Grand Slams.

At her best

Sanaa was at her best as she served and stroked with intensity in outplaying the talented Chinese who had not dropped a set in her previous five matches, including a round in the qualifying event.

The results (finals):

Boys: Rupesh Roy bt Ivan Anikanov (Ukr) 6-2, 6-4; Doubles: Rupesh Roy and Sumit Prakash Gupta bt Wu Chen Yu and Li Jie (Chn) 6-2, 6-1. Girls: Sanaa Bhambri bt Yi Miao Zhou (Chn) 6-0, 6-0.

Doubles: Ksenia Palkina (Kgz) and Sanaa Bhambri bt Zhou Yi Miao and Guo Xuan Yu (Chn) 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.
