NEW DELHI: Delhi is among the six States which have got new Youth Congress presidents in a reshuffle carried out by Congress president Sonia Gandhi. Student leader Amit Malik has been appointed president of the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee replacing sitting party MLA Rajesh Lilothia. According to Indian Youth Congress president Ashok Tanwar, the appointments were announced by AICC general secretary Ashok Gehlot with the aim of providing a new direction to the units in these States, some of which are likely to go to the polls during the next one year. Zenith M. Sangma has been appointed president of the Meghalaya Youth Congress unit, Sunil Ahire of the Mumbai Youth Congress, Rohit Pujari of the Orissa Youth Congress, Sukhamay Saha of the Tripura Youth Congress and Rajpal Singh Khairola of the Uttarnachal Youth Congress. In Delhi, the Municipal Corporation polls are scheduled for early 2007 and in Uttaranchal the Assembly polls are scheduled for early next year. Mr. Tanwar said the new presidents had been asked to take charge of their new assignments and then work hand in hand with the local Congress units to create mass awareness about the programmes and policies of the United Progressive Alliance Government at the Centre.
